January 13/09 PDHM Townhall Meeting

A message from a Member (anyone can add to the blog)

Geoff please see revised email below for the mayor and councilors, we have been asked to send emails to Maureen Rebbetoy and she will distribute to the mayor and councilors.

Geoff as we spoke on the phone today we attended a meeting put on by Cliffside Yacht Club to address the proposed 20% rate increases. This meeting was for all interested parties.

It was suggested that as many letters/emails as possible go to council from INDIVIDUALS was the way to go, with copies to the local MP and media.

The chair of the meeting asked for our executive contacts emails but I did not have anything with me so I said I would email his information to our exec, I will list his name and email/phone number below.

My suggestion would be to urge all members to send individual letters to the mayor and councilors with copies to others listed above. The more they hear from the boaters the more they will listen.

My Name is Larry West dock 3 slip 79 West Wind

I have been boating in this marina for at least 18 years and have seen the changes both good and bad. I have seen the services there decline over the past few years and feel that no one listens to our complaints. Safety concerns are overlooked while concrete curbs are installed. Washrooms remain locked until May 1st even though April 15th all fees must be paid and when working on the boat to get it into the water is a time when washrooms are really needed.
I do not mind paying more for more and better services but to pay more for less is ridiculous!! Alhough the proposed changes will bring more income into the marina it would seem to me that I as a boater will not benefit from the expansion. Why should I have to pay for the marina to make more money? If you were talking about new range lights for the entrance, a night green marker for the opening and better washroom access, better lighting around the washrooms at night and staff monitoring the radio at all times and ready help boaters dock in high winds then this increase would have some merit to me. However not one of these things are in your proposals.

Please remember that we are the ones who pay. We provide the money that the county gets it does not magically appear and if you alienate us there will be a diminished return. No say : no pay. Especially in these economic times. We are all rethinking how we spend our money.
